West African health unions meet in Burkina Faso

The West African Health Sector Unions’ Network (WAHSUN) held its 11th Plenary Session on 3-4 December 2013 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Health trade unions from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone were joined by East African health workers from Rwanda.

The network is committed to developing healthcare delivery in the region and defending the interests of members of health unions. The group discussed many health issues, including: 

  • Patient safety and workers' welfare
  • International partnerships
  • Health Millennium Development Goals
  • Health union automatic check-off systems
  • National minimum wage
