Just Transition for the workforce and the creation of decent work and quality jobs

December 08, 2015
COP21

Public Services International (PSI) and its European representative European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) are very concerned that European delegations are not supporting the COP agreement to commit to Human Rights and a Just Transition. PSI requests all affiliates to urgently take action!

Negotiations for a climate agreement are taking place in Paris these days.

We are very concerned that European delegations (EU, Norway, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Balkan countries etc. ) are not supporting the inclusion of "Just Transition for the workforce and the creation of decent work and quality jobs…" in the main body of the text.

Therefore you are kindly requested:

  • to contact your national trade union confederation
  • or your government directly

Please find here a letter from the ETUC General Secretary to the European Commission, Council and European Parliament Presidents. You can use the letter of the ETUC. BUT THIS is not only for the EU countries. (We have to address these EU institutions due to the specific nature of the EU, but all European countries are concerned). Please act and address your confederation to ensure your government supports that "Just Transition for the workforce and the creation of decent work and quality jobs…"

This is urgent as the negotiations are taking place on 8-9 December. We all stand to lose if we cannot convince governments to take the concerns of workers and people into account.

Thank you for taking action!
