Motion of support from PSI's Executive Board to the general strike in Brazil called on 28 April

The Executive Board of PSI expresses its support for the general strike in Brazil called by the trade union centres on 28th April. In response to the attacks on democracy and trade union and labour rights by the illegitimate government of Michel Temer, a general strike clearly shows strong opposition from the working class to the backward steps taken by the government.

Since the failed coup, the Turkish government has arrested thousands of workers and trade unionists. PSI calls on affiliates to contribute to a solidarity fund to help trade unions and workers operate under these difficult conditions. #SolidarityTurkey

Join the PSI campaign to abolish the practice of charging recruitment fees on migrant workers. Sign on to the Manifesto and use it to shift policy and practice towards fair and ethical recruitment.

PSI calls on its affiliates and allies to send letters to the Liberian government, for the reinstatement of dismissed workers, demanding the recognition of the right to organize for public service workers and the respect of trade union rights for all workers in Liberia!

Public Services International has launched an appeal to collect donations via the PSI Haiti Relief Fund to help our sisters and brothers in Haïti. We call on all affiliates to send in their support.

PSI calls for an inclusive new urban agenda at HIII

An international delegation of PSI affiliates and staff will participate in Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development to take place in Quito, Ecuador, from 17 – 20 October 2016. The United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development is an exceptional event that occurs every 20 years. Habitat II took place in Istanbul in 1996 and delivered at the time the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements. Habitat III is expected to deliver a new document, the New Urban Agenda.

Support PCS strike at London's National Gallery

Staff at London's National Gallery, organised by PSI affiliate the Public and commercial services union (PCS), have been on strike since February 2015 following the Gallery's decision to privatise almost all staff, including those who look after the paintings and help the gallery's six million annual visitors.

Deep concern about the World Bank support for privatisation in education

On 14 May, more than 100 organisations across the world released a joint open statement expressing deep concerns about the World Bank’s support for the development of a multinational chain of low-fee profit-making private primary schools targeting poor families in Kenya and Uganda.
