The ILO will be celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2019 with a series of global, regional and national events. 22 January, 2019 will see the official start of the “ILO100” celebrations, with the launch of the report by the Global Commission on the Future of Work in Geneva. PSI General Secretary will be participating.

Several years ago, the Geneva office in charge of public buildings in the Canton took the decision to contract out the cleaning work in the buildings to private companies. This has resulted in a huge loss for the workers, and they are campaigning for the cleaning to return to the public sector.

More than 2,000 employees from the Geneva university hospitals (HUG) in Switzerland have signed a petition asking for dramatic changes to their working conditions and pension fund allowances. Keen to provide quality public services, they denounce the declining work conditions that they face daily, and which prevent them from providing the services required.

This workshop on “Building union strategies to bring public services back in-house” is open to PSI trade union representatives with a direct experience of remunicipalising public services and/or with an interest in peer learning about these processes with a view to engage and drive remunicipalisation processes in the future.

Trade unionists, representing Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa and Inter-America, came together for the PSI World Women's Committee (WOC) on 13 November at the ILO headquarters in Geneva.
The Third Meeting of the Multi-stakeholders Partnership for Social Protection Systems and Floors (SDG 1.3) will take place on Wednesday 24 October 2018 at the International Labour Office in Geneva. The meeting will bring together over 100 participants.

The Global Unions strategy meeting on the “care economy” will take place on 22 & 23 October at Nyon, Switzerland. The meeting is being organised by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in conjunction with global union federations.
Civil society organizations have a key role to play as independent watchdogs holding governments and international organizations accountable for their actions that help—or hinder—the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The Spotlight on Sustainable Development 2018 report, produced by a global coalition of civil society organizations and trade unions, provides a wide-ranging independent assessment of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.
