In Lagos Nigeria, the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth led protest actions on some major streets in continued campaigns to kick against plans by the Lagos State Government to privatize its water. PSI Nigerian affiliate the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation Civil Service and Recreational Services Employees participated in the protest.

Through the streets of Nairobi, over 300 trade unionists from PSI affiliates, dressed in matching shirts and carrying placards with messages concerning the protection of water, poured onto the streets to celebrate World Water Day.

In a discussion with PSI, George Poe Williams, General Secretary of NAHWUL, Liberia, expressed his heartfelt frustration at the situation in the country, but also his hope for the future with the new government of President George Weah who recently met with the health sector unions, as earlier reported by PSI. People working in domestic establishments in Ghana will soon be recognized as formal workers. This new regulation is expected to come into force as soon as the Parliament of Ghana considers a bill to regularize the work of domestic workers.

Since 2009, PSI and ST-Sweden have worked together to introduce equal pay for men and women workers in Chad through the project “Pay Equity”. Demba Karyom, from PSI Chadian affiliate FSPT, was interviewed in the context of this project. This is part of PSI's online campaign for International Women's Day.
