Public Services International’s Programme of Action, adopted at our World Congress in November 2012, confirms PSI’s commitment to the right to equal opportunities irrespective of sex, marital status, ethnic origin, national identity, disability, sexual orientation, age or religion, at the workplace, in trade unions and in the broader political, social, economic and cultural context.

PSI Interamericas LGBT Regional Committee Meeting

The Cape Town recommendations

The delegates of the Third EI- PSI Sexual Diversity Forum in Cape Town reaffirm the Porto Alegre Declaration and the recommendations of the Second International LGBT Forum in Vienna, recognize the progress made thus far in the implementation of these, and recommend that the Executive Boards of EI and PSI continue to pursue recommendations from both forums.

It was on Nelson Mandela’s 93rd birthday that 150 delegates from 45 countries around the world gathered in Cape Town, South Africa for a two-day forum on sexual diversity, organised jointly by two global union federations: Education International (EI) and Public Services International (PSI). This was the third joint LGBT forum for EI and PSI, and was billed as the largest LGBT event on the African continent.

LGBT trade union planning and coordination meeting

This summer, PSI-EI will re-launch joint LGBT activities by organizing a trade union planning and coordination meeting at the International Trade Union House on 30 July in Brussels (5, Boulevard Albert II, 1210 Brussels, 14:00-17:30). This meeting is the day before the Human Rights Conference (HRC) of the Outgames in Antwerp, 31 July-2 August 2013.

World Outgames

WorldOutgames is an international event organized from within the LGBTQ community open for everyone. After Montreal 2006 and Copenhagen 2009, Antwerp is next in line in 2013. The event consist of three main pillars: a human rights conference, a cultural festival and a sports event with in total over 250.000 visitors. Antwerp is also Europe’s capital of sport in 2013. worldOutgames will be the biggest sports event in its programme.
