Guidelines for PSI Emergency Response Work

PSI’s Emergency and Disasters Working Group developed these guidelines to assist unions that represent first responders, frontline workers and other services that are called into action before, during and after emergencies and disasters.

The key elements include the need for advance preparedness, both on the part of employers, workers and trade unions, and importantly, with the communities. Underlying the whole area of work is the understanding that decisions regarding emergency preparedness and response rest largely with public agencies and with government, hence political action must be part of any union strategy.
