ADEDY and GSEE stage nationwide strike in Greece against pension reform

04 February 2016
ADEDY and GSEE demonstrate
PSI Greek affiliate ADEDY, together with the Greek General Confederation of Labour (GSEE) began a 24-hour nationwide strike on 4 February, in protest against the planned overhaul of the pensions system in Greece.

Many unions from a wide variety of sectors have also voiced their disapproval of the proposed Government Bill that was only negotiated with the employers’ associations. The Bill will mean an increase in social security contributions while imposing further cuts on workers’ benefits.

PSI stands in solidarity with its affiliates and workers in Greece and strongly condemns these Government measures, taken unilaterally in violation of ILO Convention no. 144, which only impoverish Greek people and offer no long-term solution to the critical economic situation in the country.
