Actions and events against austerity all over Europe

Major protests against austerity measures are taking place in many European countries.We give you the list of upcoming events:

Thousands of workers in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal have taken to the streets to protest against austerity measures imposed by their governments and the European union. The actions and protests continue. These are some of them:

28 September - Italy
Our Italian colleagues from CGIL and UIL public sector federations will take strike action on 28 September in protest to government plans to restructure the public services and cut jobs, with large numbers of workers on temporary contracts under threat. Read more at www.fpcigil.it (Italian)

29 September - Germany
German unionists and actionists plan for a national day of action on 29 September to focus on lack of day-care centers, closed libraries, poor transport - and other consequences of austerity measures in the public sector. Belgium: Fighting European austerity treaty
Belgian unions join forces against the EU Austerity treaty, and on September 30 they will be in the streets of Paris to demonstrate. www.cgsp-acod-bru.be

7 October - World day for decent work
Trade unions around the world will organise mobilisations, events and activities to demand decent jobs and full respect for workers’ rights. With the global economic crisis still hitting working people hard in every part of the world, trade unions will organise mobilisations, events and activities to demand decent jobs and full respect for workers’ rights. 8 October - Europe
IndustriAll European Trade Union will be running a campaign the whole week. National unions will organise a series of activities to draw attention  to the situation of industry and its workers. In some countries demonstrations are foreseen. The themes are: European industrial workers are mobilizing for a change of direction: Stand up for industry as the bedrock of the European economy! 9 October - France
Our colleagues in CGT have announced manifestations in the big cities of France. The purpose of the rallies is to highlight the economic and social situation, and to focus on the difficulties in the French industry. See the mobilisation video at www.cgt.fr (French)

20 October - United Kingdom
With the headline "A Future that works", large national action will take place to protest against austerity in UK. The action's webpage states:"Our country faces long-term economic problems. But our political leaders have failed to face up to them. For the next five years or more, unless policies change the economy will not grow, incomes will not rise, and there will be almost no new jobs.' Read more.
