Algerian unionists on hunger strike for 10 days

Members of PSI affiliate in Algeria, SNAPAP, working in the justice sector, have been on  hunger strike since 6th May, following a 21-day strike in the sector.
For ten days now, the hunger strikers have been ignored by the authorities. Their health is in danger and two of them have been hospitalised.

SNAPAP are calling on the government to react to this serious situation and to enter into negotiations with the justice workers' union. PSI is closely following the situation.

Public Services International strongly denounces the violations of human and trade union rights in Algeria. PSI affiliate the Syndicat National Autonome des Personnels de l’Administration Publique (SNAPAP) has informed us of widespread police repression and restrictions on freedom of expression in the country. Trade unionists are harrassed with treats and reprisals in response to their legitimate trade union activities.

On Saturday 21 April, Czech trade unions, NGO and civil society organisations will hold a mass demonstration in Prague against anti-social reforms. Organisers are demanding that the government resign, and have made a call for early elections. Workers, patients, pensioners, unemployed, and university students will protest against the current living and working conditions in the Czech Republic.

Spain: unions call for general strike over labour laws
