The Tanzanian government has taken some steps to improve health access to all citizens, including a budget increase of 35 per cent. But for the health workers’ trade union TUGHE, to improve both the quality of services in the health sector and productivity in the country, the government should invest more in improving health employees’ working conditions and motivation.

Oppression leads to Depression - World Health Day 2017

Confronting Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), often simply called depression, is the theme for this year’s World Health Day on 7 April. MDD is a mental disorder characterized by at least two weeks of persistent sadness and a loss of interest in normally enjoyable activities accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities.

UNISON Petitions Liberian Government: Demands Reinstatement of Tamba and Poe Williams

In a letter to the president of Liberia, submitted at the country's Embassy in London on November 18, Dave Prentis, UNISON's General Secretary expressed “grave concerns over the situation of workers in the health sector in Liberia”, drawing particular attention to the dismissals of Brothers Joseph S. Tamba and George Poe Williams.

Chadian Health Workers Strike for Payment of Salaries and Against IMF-inspired measures

Health workers in Chad commenced an indefinite strike last week. The workers who are members of L’Union des Syndicats du Tchad, le Syndicat National des Enseignants et Chercheurs du Supérieur and la Confédération Indépendante des Syndicats du Tchad are demanding the payment of backlogs of salaries, and suspension of public finance recovery measures in the health sector.
