The Civil Society Days of the annual Global Forum on Migration and Development will be held in Mauritius in November.

The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is an informal forum of governments for dialogue and cooperation on migration and development. Attached to the GFMD is the Civil Society Days, which is a forum among members of civil society to discuss migration and development and to make recommendations to the GFMD.

Parallel events are also being run alongside the GFMD such as the Peoples’ Global Action on Migration, Development and Human Rights, organized by migrant rights organizations.

Public Services International, together with the Global Union Federations, participates in the GFMD Civil Society Days and the parallel events, bringing the voice of public sector trade unions and highlighting migrant workers’ rights and quality public services.

PSI encourages their affilates to join the trade union delegation by making an application as delegate to the GFMD Civil Society Days. Applications are done online on this website. The deadline for application is 15 June 2012.

Please note that PSI does not provide sponsorship to these events. It is the GFMD Civil Society Days organizing committee that determines sponsorship. Funding is very limited and priority is given to applicants from developing countries.

Please also note that the PSI pre-Congress Migration Seminar is on 22-23 November 2012 in Durban, South Africa. Since it is in the same sub-region, PSI encourages our affiliates to proceed to Durban and to join us in the PSI Migration Seminar. The seminar will showcase PSI’s achievements in the migration programme and will provide the opportunity to develop strategies for future work. Participation in the PSI Migration Seminar is open to all affiliates.
