“Je suis Charlie”: PSI condemns shocking killings of media staff

08 January 2015
Je suis Charlie
PSI stands in solidarity with the French independent journalists and joins its affiliates CFDT, FO and CGT in condemning the barbaric attack on the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that took place in Paris on 7 January 2015.

Twelve people were killed during the shooting, including the editor and well-known cartoonists. A further number of staff are fighting for their lives in area hospitals.

PSI strongly opposes all forms of violence and denounces such acts of terror. This is not only a direct attack on freedom of expression but on democracy as a whole.

We are aware that institutions that favour freedom of expression and freedom of association are increasingly coming under attack around the world.

Faced with this outburst of violence and hatred, our message is one of peace, democracy, freedom of thought and freedom of expression and the fight against all forms of totalitarianism.

PSI wishes to express its sincerest condolences and support to the families of all those bereaved and affected by the tragedy.

PSI stands for freedom and tolerance and always will.
