Norwegian Nurses Organization Forced to Call Off Strike

Nurses from PSI affiliate NSF (Norwegian Nurses Organisation), on strike since 25 October, were forced to resume work after the Association of Norwegian Enterprise announced a lockout - the first ever in Norwegian healthcare - and the Norwegian government had to step into the conflict.

Kerala faces severe floods: nurses union joins rescue effort

As of 20 August, the death toll due to floods in the southern Indian state of Kerala stood at 1,361. More than 700,000 people are now in close to 3,000 relief camps across the state. Rescue and relief efforts have been tireless, by the government and by civil society.

30 000 nurses on strike in New Zealand

The 24-hour strike began on Thursday, and comes after months of negotiations between the government and nurses broke down on Wednesday. Nurses said they were overworked and underpaid, with unsafe working conditions leading to burnout and exhaustion.

Health Employment and Economic Growth (ComHEEG) in March 2016. Its task is to propose intersectoral
actions to guide and stimulate the creation of health and social sector jobs to advance inclusive
economic growth.
In support of the Commission’s work, an Expert Group was convened to critically review the

Report from the Health & Social Services Sector Strategy Consultation

The strategic consultation of 18-19 November 2013 was convened to review and renew the health and social services strategy for PSI, given that PSI affiliates had adopted a broad Programme of Action at Congress in 2012, including 4 resolutions on health, and, that after wide consultations early in 2013, had agreed a set of priorities in Working for the Alternative.

This report summarizes the conclusions of the consultation and highlights the action points for 2014 for PSI and PSI affiliates.

ILO TTM on refugees

The Tripartite Meeting of Experts to Develop Guidance on Fair Recruitment is being held at the ILO in Geneva on 5-7 September. The objective is to adopt ILO guidelines on fair recruitment, encompassing both cross-border and national recruitment. PSI Migration Programme Coordinator, Genevieve Gencianos, delivered a speech on 5 September at the opening session of the meeting.
