PSI at the International Labour Conference (ILC)

The 107th Session of the International Labour Conference will be held at the Palais des Nations and the ILO headquarters, in Geneva, from 28 May to 8 June 2018. PSI will be working in close cooperation with its affiliates and the Workers’ Group at the ILC to make the voices of public sector workers heard!

On 6 June 2017, in a public debate held during the International Labour Conference (ILC) at the International Labour Organization (ILO), a delegation from PSI Argentinean affiliate the Municipal Workers’ Confederation (CTM) shared the struggle that led to Act 14656 on Labour Relations and Collective Bargaining in the Province of Buenos Aires (“Paritarias Act”) and the challenges that remain to uphold it with over 60 ILC delegates from Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Arab countries.

As decided at the 325th Session of the ILO Governing Body, the 2017 ILC will hold a general discussion on labour migration, which will focus on effective labour migration governance at national, bilateral, regional and interregional levels, and on fair recruitment.

ILO General Survey: Collective bargaining in the public service – A way forward

The main focus of the ILO General Survey is on collective bargaining rights in the public administration. It also covers a number of other subjects, including consultation, the civil and political rights of public sector employees, the facilities to be granted to trade union representatives, protection against acts of discrimination and interference, and dispute settlement mechanisms. However, Convention No. 154 applies not only to the public administration, but also to the whole of the public and private sectors. This explains that while the Survey focuses on the public administration for the subjects mentioned, it also refers more generally, and in less detail, to the situation in respect of law and practice in the private sector.
