Event: High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (HLD)

For only the second time ever, United Nations’ Member States are organizing a High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (HLD). The HLD 2013 will bring together high level representatives of governments, including heads of state, ministers, vice-ministers and senior officials in a series of plenary sessions and four round tables.

WTO Public Forum

The Public Forum is the World Trade Organization’s largest annual outreach event to discuss the latest developments in world trade. This year’s theme is "expanding trade through innovation and the digital economy." This event is an opportunity for PSI to promote the importance of public services and influence those who negotiate trade agreements that affect our members.

Human Rights Conference (HRC) of the Outgames

The Human Rights Conference (HRC) of the Outgames will be taking place in Antwerp from 31 July-2 August 2013.

World Outgames

WorldOutgames is an international event organized from within the LGBTQ community open for everyone. After Montreal 2006 and Copenhagen 2009, Antwerp is next in line in 2013. The event consist of three main pillars: a human rights conference, a cultural festival and a sports event with in total over 250.000 visitors. Antwerp is also Europe’s capital of sport in 2013. worldOutgames will be the biggest sports event in its programme.

United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW57)

Union women from around the world are gathering in New York for the United Nations’ 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW57), starting on 4th March 2013. Focusing on the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls, the trade union delegation to UNCSW57 will call on all member states to take all necessary measures to immediately and without further delay prevent and remedy violence against women and girls.

6th World Water Forum and Alternative Water Forum

Unions from 30 countries will gather in Marseille, France to express loud and clear their concerns about water policies.  The occasion is the triennial World Water Forum –WWF6, a corporate tradeshow which masquerades as a global policy arena.  The water forum was the brainchild of the French multinational corporations Veolia and Suez, in cahoots with the World Bank, created back when privatisation was the only solution for getting water to poor people in developing countries.  Now, the gloss is off the rose, and only the sharp spines are left.

Focusing on decent work for rural women, quality public services, social protection and human rights, the trade union delegation to UNCSW56 will call on governments to commit to concrete measures to ensure that women living and working in rural areas enjoy opportunities for economic, social and human development.

Global Forum on Migration and Development - Civil Society Days

This year's GFMD Civil Society Days, focusing on the theme "Taking Action on Labour Migration, Development and the Protection of Migrant Workers and their Families," will bring together 200 civil society delegates to discuss and make recommendations to governments in the areas of rights-based policy making for the benefit of migrant workers and their families, protection for undocumented migrant wokrers, labour mobility and development alternatives to migration.
