Obama commutes Chelsea Manning's sentence

The 29-year-old transgender US Army private, who was already in jail for nearly seven years, will be freed on 17 May instead of her scheduled 2045 release. Manning had been sentenced to 35 years for her role in leaking diplomatic cables to Wikileaks in 2010.

New Workplace Standards to Curtail Workplace Violence in California Hospitals

The workplace appears set to be safer for health workers in California hospitals, with the approval of new rules by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) which would make it compulsory for hospitals and other healthcare facilities to establish violence prevention protocols, with the active involvement of the workers.

Civil society strategy meeting: “The big push for Public-Private Partnerships: challenges and perspectives”

This strategy meeting aims to bring together Northern and Southern CSOs working on various topics (for example: human rights, debt, climate change, infrastructure finance, transparency & accountability) to discuss the different vulnerabilities behind PPP projects and exchange perspectives on potential joint advocacy activities. The meeting will focus on PPPs in different sectors and some of the cross-cutting implications, including for fiscal sustainability, human rights, and climate change commitments.
