PSI General Secretary’s speech at PSI JC’s 30th anniversary

PSI General Secretary, Rosa Pavanelli, gave a speech at PSI Japan Council's (PSI-JC) 30th anniversary which took place in Tokyo on 22 June 2018. This was part of a three-day visit, invited by PSI-JC, the National Coordinating Committee of PSI affiliates in Japan.

Unions in Nepal commit to ILO Guidelines for Decent Work for Public Emergency Service Workers

On 26 June, PSI held a half-day meeting on Emergency Service Workers in Kathmandu, Nepal, aimed at discussing and contributing to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Guidelines to Ensure Decent Work in Public Emergency Services (PES). The seven unions represented decided to engage the government to ensure its support for the Guidelines and develop of a strategy to implement them.

Inspired by Martin Luther King, an American movement, "The Poor People's Campaign", made up of trade unionists, poor workers, members of religious organizations and liberal activists will be in Washington on June 23 to protest for dignified jobs and decent wages. They did not choose this date at random: it is international Public Service Day.

"Real denuclearisation and the establishment of a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula are up to us", says PSI affiliate KPTU

"As we made clear during the Candlelight Rally for Peace on June 9, a real plan for the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula has to include withdrawal of the U.S.’ policies of nuclear pre-emptive strike and extended deterrence against North Korea. [...] In addition, a reduction of conventional weapons by all sides and withdrawal of the U.S. troops station in South Korea are needed to remove the material conditions of war and overcome the roots causes of the nuclear conflict. All of these tasks remain before us", reads the statement issued by the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers’ Union.

Power employees in India to hold nationwide strike against privatisation bill

In its National Convention held in New Delhi, on 8 June, the Indian National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE) decided to call for a nationwide power strike on 7 Dec this year to protest against the Electricity (Amendment) bill 2014. This bill seeks to extend privatisation to the distribution of electricity.

UN Conference of State Parties to the Convention of Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

PSI is participating for the first time in the Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) held in New York from 12-14 June. PSI is also jointly organising a side event on 13 June, to identify how Social Dialogue is, or could be, used to ensure the implementation of the CRPD.
