Although Algeria ratified Convention 87 and article 53 of the Algerian law (90-14, 2nd June 1990) states that that "no union delegate may be dismissed or transferred by his/her employer, nor can any disciplinary action be undertaken as a result of his/her union activities", trade unionists have for many years been harassed, threatened, and arrested as a result of legitimate trade union activities.
PSI, together with its affiliates CGATA and SNAPAP, continue to urge the Algerian government and campaign for the respect of peaceful and legitimate trade union activities, to stop criminalisation of trade union leaders, activists and other dissenting voices in the country.
