Civil Society Days: 9th Global Forum on Migration and Development (Dhaka)

Date:
8 December, 2016 to 9 December, 2016
Time:
09.00 - 17.00
Location:
Dhaka, Bangladesh
Event type:
PSI and the Global Union Federations are planning to bring a delegation of trade union activists to the GFMD Civil Society Days (CSD). The Civil Society Days will take place on 8‐9 December 2016, to be followed by the GFMD on 10‐12 December 2016. Both events will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Global Forum on Migration and Development is an annual gathering of states to discuss strategies and initiatives on migration and development. The theme of the 2016 GFMD is on “Migration that works for Sustainable Development for All: Towards a Transformative Migration Agenda.”

Civil society organisations and trade union organisations engage in the process through the Civil Society Days which precedes the GFMD. The GFMD is exclusive for governments only. Over the past years since its inception, PSI and the trade union movement have maintained a critical position on the GFMD due to its exclusionary process and lack of adherence to the rights‐based normative framework. We maintain our critique on the GFMD as we continue to push for a rights‐based approach on the issue of migration and refugees in various global fora.

Public Services International and the Global Union Federations are planning to bring a delegation of trade union activists to the GFMD Civil Society Days (CSD). However, in order to get accreditation to the CSD, participants need to make an online application.

In order to coordinate our trade union participation, kindly email us at PSI,  c/o genevieve.gencianos@worldpsi.org, once you have successfully made your application.
