The All-Ukrainian Protest March will be held in Kiev

The All-Ukrainian Protest March, a joint protest of trade unions representing 8 million workers in Ukraine, will be held at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in Kiev, on 6 July 2016, at 10:00 am.

The protesters will march Shevchenka Boulevard, Khreshchatyk Street and Hrushevskoho Street, picket the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and finally rally near the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in protest against the shock rise in gas prices and tariffs for housing and communal services.

Between April and June 2016, the central government adopted a number of decisions to raise almost twice the price of natural gas for the households (with simultaneous cancellation of preferential prices) and 1.8-2.2 times the tariffs for hot water and heating. In September, they are planning to increase the electricity tariffs by 30%, at the same time the regional water utilities will increase the tariffs for cold water. Such decisions are taken without discussion with the social partners, in violation of the laws of Ukraine and the General Agreement, and are leading to inevitable decline in living standards for the citizens.

The FPU’s affiliates will also organise on-site actions in support of the all-Ukrainian Protest March.
