Solidarity with South Korean Workers! International Day of Action on November 15th

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) is planning a General Strike and International Day of Action on November 15th. PSI will be participating in this international day of action and calls upon its affiliates to work with their national trade union centres to ensure this day becomes a major global protest at the continuing repression and violation of trade union rights in South Korea

Despite numerous requests by the international community, the South Korean Government has repeatedly refused to recognise PSI’s affiliate, the Korean Government of Employees Union (KGEU), declaring it an illegal organisation and recently launching a series of repressive actions aiming at forcefully closing down the KGEU offices thereby causing injuries to a number of its members. (See http://kctu.org;  http://inter.kgeu.org/ and PSI Urgent Actions).

The KCTU is calling on the international community to simultaneously hold a series of actions and events, such as:

  1. Demonstrations in front of your local South Korean Embassy, Press Conferences or issuing a statement or resolution and let the KCTU know at inter@kctu.org
  2. Sending a protest letter to President Roh Moo Hyun (see model letter with contact details)
  3. Leaving a solidarity message or protest letter on the KCTU website (http://kctu.org)
