“Giving Young Workers a Voice in Trade
Unions!”
 |
‘Trade unions
unite young workers so they can bargain for their rights at the
workplace and, on the other hand, unions can grow through the immense
energy and potential of young workers,’ says Shweta Tripathi, from the Hind Mahila Sabha
Indian Women Association, in “Giving Young Workers a
Voice in Trade Unions!” - a new
publication from Public Services International.
The 20-page brochure forms part of the PSI programme to
strengthen unions’ capacity to reach out and engage young
workers.
‘By the next PSI Congress in 2007, we
want to have more young people involved in the activities of PSI. We
must find ways to allow young workers to have a real influence on our
work,’ says Hans Engelberts, General
Secretary of PSI.
“Giving Young Workers a Voice in Trade
Unions!” is based on interviews with young women and men
actively involved in their union, from countries as diverse as Nepal and
Canada. This brochure aims to encourage unions to involve young people
in their decisions and through practical examples, show that small steps
can yield very positive results and benefits.
The publication, edited in English, French and Spanish, provides a set
of key ideas for organising young workers effectively, and includes
pictures, quotes and various cases studies.
