World AIDS Day 2008

Image1 December 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day.  PSI joins the Global Union AIDS Programme (GUAP) in calling on governments, the international community and other actors to make Universal Access for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment an urgent priority for the next two years, to reach the 2010 target.
This year’s theme for World AIDS Day is “Lead – Empower – Deliver”, building on last year’s theme of “Take the Lead” and providing an opportunity to highlight both the political leadership needed to fulfil commitments that have been made in the response to AIDS and celebrating the leadership that has been witnessed at all levels of society.
PSI is working in collaboration with affiliates and civil society partners to highlight the necessity to protect health workers by promoting safe injection devices, access to post-exposure prophylaxis and the application of WHO and ILO guidelines.
The World AIDS Campaign has produced a wide variety of campaign materials, available on www.worldaidscampaign.org.
