After the massive earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday 12th January, PSI members have shown their solidarity and support to our affiliate sisters and brothers with donations to the PSI Aid Fund.  The Wisconsin Federation of Nurses & Health Professionals led the way with a generous $10,000 US donation. Affiliates from the US, Canada and the Caribbean have travelled to Haiti to offer their assistance and solidarity.

PSI’s affiliate in Haiti, the Confédération des Travailleurs et Travailleuses des Secteurs Public et Privé (Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers), represents over 6,500 members. In the days following the earthquake, PSI interviewed Dukens Raphael, secretary general of CTSP, who confirmed that over 300 union members were killed and that the union’s office had been destroyed. PSI’s Subregional Office in Barbados, together with the PSI Head Office in France, continues to work closely with our Haitian affiliate to determine how we can directly help rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Photographer Natasha Fillion went to Haiti in February and took photographs of PSI affiliates and the remains of the union office in Port-au-Prince. She returned in May and photographed the union's May Day demonstration and the solidarity visit of PSI affiliates. You can see the photos in our Haiti photo gallery.
